Endangered Ecological Community – Melaleuca irbyana commonly known as the Swamp Tea Tree is an endangered plant found in Logan. The trees are very distinctive with thick spongy papery bark, stalk-less pointed leaves arranged spirally, and white fluffy flower spikes seen in spring to summer.
As there is now less than 10% of the original M.irbyana forest protesting and preserving the species is now critical to the ongoing survival of the species. Cedar Grove Landcare has been assisting landholders with significant populations to restore and increase resilience of the species on their properties. Through invasive weed removal and encouraging natural regeneration these properties are securing the future conservation of the endangered M.irbyana.
